In 2013, Lucas began researching the economical possibilities of creating hemp related businesses in the United States, especially in his home state of SC. In 2014, he founded the South Carolina Hemp Growers Association LLC (SCHGA) and is a founding member of the South Carolina Hemp Association which had its first official meeting in March of 2015. He is actively working with various members of the SC community in order to assist in the adoption of industrial hemp as a staple crop of SC agriculture. He has been placed on a steering committee to assist in the passage of industrial hemp laws to effectively end the hemp prohibition in SC. He is working to develop relationships with industries that use industrial hemp as a raw material in the U.S. in order to develop a demand to take back to the farmers.
