Welcome to the National Hemp Association’s In Conversation Series where we highlight our business members and affiliates.

In this installment, Assistant NHA Executive Director, Anna Chanthavongseng, interviews Calvin Frye of the Standing Committee for Social Equity

Social Equity in the Hemp Industry

Serial entrepreneur, scientist, and pioneer in the cannabis industry, we interview Calvin Frye, Chair of the NHA’s Standing Committee for Social Equity (SCSE). Mr. Frye discusses his entrance into the cannabis industry as a scientist and businessman. “Can you imagine a black guy going into Hollywood with a realtor and convincing him that cannabis is medicine and we want to open a store that sells marijuana?”

This interview discusses the obstacles and successes to entering the hemp and cannabis space as BIPOC entrepreneurs and farmers. Social exclusion affects marginalized communities professionally, economically, emotionally, and psychologically. Watch the interview below to learn more about how the SCSE supports social equity, equality, and inclusion with our Educational Hemp Series.
