Geoff Whaling speaking about the Goodness of Hemp Act. Support good policy.

Industry-wide participation will help establish credible national benchmarks and ensure every sector of the U.S. hemp economy is represented.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Hemp Association has opened the 2026–2027 National Hemp Industry Survey, calling on farmers, processors, manufacturers, researchers, retailers, service providers, industry organizations, and other hemp stakeholders to ensure their experiences and priorities are represented.

The National Hemp Industry Survey is designed to establish consistent benchmarks for measuring the direction, needs, and development of the U.S. hemp industry. Over time, these benchmarks will make it possible to track meaningful trends, document progress, identify persistent challenges, and better understand where infrastructure, investment, research, and policy attention are needed.

The survey takes approximately five to seven minutes to complete.

“Reliable benchmarks are essential to the long-term development of any serious American industry,” said Geoff Whaling, Chairman of the National Hemp Association. “If we want policymakers, researchers, investors, and agricultural leaders to understand hemp’s challenges and potential, we must give them credible information. Broad participation will help ensure that every part of the industry is represented—not only its largest companies or most visible sectors.”

Why National Hemp Industry Benchmarks Matter

Decisions affecting hemp are being made at every level—from Congress and federal agencies to state governments, research institutions, financial organizations, agricultural programs, and private markets.

Those decisions are stronger when they are informed by reliable national data.

Without consistent benchmarks, the hemp industry risks being defined by incomplete information, isolated statistics, or assumptions that fail to reflect the full range of hemp agriculture, manufacturing, research, and commerce taking place across the country.

The National Hemp Industry Survey will help create a clearer picture of:

  • Who is participating in the U.S. hemp industry
  • Which sectors are growing, changing, or encountering barriers
  • Where infrastructure, research, and investment are most needed
  • How regulatory and market conditions affect farmers and businesses
  • Which applications and markets show the greatest potential
  • What industry stakeholders identify as their most urgent priorities
  • How industry conditions evolve from one survey cycle to the next

The value of these benchmarks will grow over time, but their credibility depends on strong participation now.

Make Sure Your Sector Is Represented

The hemp industry is not a single market. It is a connected national economy encompassing agriculture, fiber, grain, food, animal feed, manufacturing, construction materials, research, wellness, responsibly regulated consumer products, environmental applications, technology, logistics, and professional services.

Each sector faces distinct opportunities and challenges. Each has information that belongs in the national picture.

The National Hemp Association encourages participation from people and organizations involved in hemp farming, genetics, processing, manufacturing, research, testing, education, retail, distribution, logistics, technology, finance, insurance, public programs, and other areas supporting the hemp economy.

Participation from organizations of every size is important. A credible national benchmark must reflect small farmers and emerging businesses as well as established processors, manufacturers, researchers, and national operators.

If a region, market, or part of the supply chain does not participate, its experiences may not be adequately represented in the resulting data.

Why the National Hemp Association Is Leading This Work

The National Hemp Association brings together stakeholders from across agriculture, manufacturing, research, commerce, and the broader hemp value chain.

This cross-sector perspective allows NHA to approach the survey as a national industry resource rather than through the interests of any single product category or market.

The survey supports NHA’s broader work to strengthen the foundation of the U.S. hemp industry through education, collaboration, advocacy, market development, and credible information.

Aggregated findings are intended to support national reporting, educational resources, policy discussions, research, strategic planning, and greater public understanding of hemp’s role in American agriculture and manufacturing.

The goal is not simply to capture a one-time snapshot. It is to create a recurring national benchmark that can measure change, demonstrate progress, and help guide responsible long-term growth.

Take the 2026–2027 National Hemp Industry Survey

Everyone working in or supporting the hemp industry has a role in building a more accurate national picture.

The survey takes approximately five to seven minutes to complete. Participants are encouraged to respond early so their experiences can be reflected in upcoming national reporting.

The National Hemp Association encourages businesses, associations, researchers, public-sector partners, and other industry organizations to distribute the survey through their professional networks.

Make sure your experience, your sector, and your priorities are represented.
