It’s hard to believe that one year has come and gone since word travelled throughout the hemp industry of the passing of young Charlotte Figi. Yet, on this the one-year anniversary a benefit concert, “Rock the RoC,” is taking place in her honor, featuring performances from The Avett Brothers, Jason Mraz, Michael Franti, Ruthie Foster, Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers, among others, and appearances by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
I had the pleasure of seeing Charlotte on a number of occasions over her brief life and, through her mother Paige, worked with other families across this country who were seeking a legal basis to use CBD, in the hope that they too would experience similar results. I participated in a Halloween event years ago with many of the families who up and left their home states to settle in the Colorado Spring area so to be close to Paige, Charlotte and Heather Jackson who not only inspired but was a determined beacon of hope but who were building a movement. To experience that one evening with so many who had begun to see a difference in the quality of their children’s lives will stay with me for the rest of my days. I clearly recall the joy that Charlotte brought, not only in wanting me to share her potato chips, but in seeing her chase a dog and squeal while doing so.
She inspires many every day. Her legacy lives on in many of us. I have lived a privileged life, mostly because of people I have met along the way, most of all the lovely Charlotte.
Please remember why we do what we do, take a moment to include Paige and her family in your thoughts and Charlotte in your prayers!
